Hecking словослияния (в англ. "blends, portmanteaus") заполонили не только инглиш, но и всё интернет пространство. Про них уже рассказывалось в ЕY, я же хочу акцентировать внимание на самых актуальных, без которых вы не сможете себя назвать трушными миллениалами.
Помните пресловутые "хливкие шорьки" Льюиса Кэрола?
Именно автор приключений Алисы дал слову "портманто" новую коннотацию.
Шалтай Болтай, объясняя Алисе значение слов в стихотворении "Бармаглот", говорит:
"You see it's like a portmanteau — there are two meanings packed up into one word"
В итоге на адекватном языке имеем:
хливкие = хлипкие и ловкие
шорьки = помесь хорька, ящерицы и штопора (???)
В общем, I hope you get it, берём два слова, да хоть три, лепим из них что-то новое и прекрасное — получаем портманто.
Так вот, современный английский язык полон таких словослияний, параллель с советским "сленгом" забавляет, но если вспомнить что говорил дядя Оруэлл про язык в "1984", то становится немного не по себе, lol
Ниже приведу примеры, которые нужно знать всем нам в 2к18:
Из очевидного:
podcast (iPod + broadcast)
malware (malicious + software)
Spanglish (Spanish + English)
Также здесь должны быть всякого рода пейринги типа Brangelina, Johnlock etc.
chillax (chill + relax): calm down, rest.
cosplay (costume + play): dressing up in costumes that resemble characters from popular culture.
craptacular (crap + spectacular): entertainment that is so poor in quality it's captivating.
crunk (crazy + drunk): out of control after consuming alcohol.
edutainment (education + entertainment): forms of entertainment that have an educational aspect.
frenemy (friend + enemy): someone who is supposed to be a friend but whose actions are more characteristic of a foe.
gaydar (gay + radar): the ability to identify whether a person is homosexual based on an observation of their appearance and/or behavior.
ginormous (giant + enormous): large, huge.
mansplaining (man + explaining): explaining something to a woman in a condescending manner.
mockumentary (mock + documentary): а genre of film and television in which fictitious events are presented in documentary-style manner.
spork (spoon + fork): а hybrid form of cutlery.
And my personal favorite:
ridonkulous (ridiculous + donkey): the epitome of ridiculous.
